Health Benefits

Citi’s health benefits are available to you and your spouse/domestic partner regardless of gender, gender identity or sexuality, as well as your and your spouse’s/domestic partner’s children. These benefits provide comprehensive, inclusive coverage for a wide range of health care and prescription needs. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, you may find the benefits highlighted below particularly helpful.

Citi Health Concierge and Health Advocate

Your Aetna or Anthem Citi Health Concierge is available to provide help if you need assistance understanding and using your benefits, such as:

  • Confirming coverage
  • Finding providers
  • Requesting prior authorization
  • Understanding bills and claims

To contact your Citi Health Concierge:

Health Advocate: In addition to your Aetna or Anthem Citi Health Concierge, you have access to independent support through Health Advocate. This free service is available to all Citi employees, even if you aren’t enrolled in a Citi medical plan.

Your Health Advocate will advocate for you and your covered family members and can help you:

  • Navigate the health care system
  • Resolve billing or claims issues
  • Submit appeals
  • And much more

Dependent Eligibility Details

Both legal spouses and domestic partners/civil union partners, as well as their children, are eligible to be covered by Citi’s:

You must submit a domestic partner coverage application or your registration of partnership when enrolling your domestic partner. If your domestic partner qualifies as a tax dependent, their coverage is treated the same as a legal spouse, with no tax implications for you.

Gender Affirmation Services

Gender affirmation services for individuals with diagnosed gender dysphoria are covered in most cases when determined to be medically necessary based on the clinical guidelines set forth by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Standards of Care.

Services covered under Citi’s medical plans include:

  • Hormone therapy*
  • Puberty suppression*
  • Voice modification and communication therapy
  • Genital surgery and surgery to change secondary sex characteristics**
  • Reconstructive and complementary procedures, including pectoral implants, gluteal augmentation, hair removal and many others**

Call your medical plan’s Citi Health Concierge before obtaining gender affirmation services to confirm coverage and ask about the need for prior authorization related to health care:

*Generally covered under your medical plan’s pharmacy benefit. For questions about your prescription coverage, or to determine whether your medication requires prior authorization, call CVS Caremark at 1 (844) 214-6601 or visit the CVS Caremark website. (Note: Prescription drug benefits for HMOs are provided through the HMOs. Contact your HMO for information about its pharmaceutical coverage.)

**Short-term Medical Leave: If you need time away from work to recover from transition-related procedures, the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) applies, entitling eligible employees to take a job-protected, medically necessary leave. Your Employee Medical Leave (EML) would run concurrently with short-term disability (STD) benefits, which provide income replacement during your leave.

Preventive Care

All preventive care based on biological needs is covered in full regardless of gender assigned at birth. Covered preventive services include:

  • Annual OB/GYN exams
  • Annual primary care physician exam
  • Vaccinations as applicable based on medical guidance (including monkey pox vaccine, etc.)
  • HIV prevention, including HIV testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) injectable treatment

Family Planning

Citi recognizes that there are many paths to parenthood. We provide inclusive benefits to support you in building your family in your own way.

Fertility Treatment

Coverage for fertility treatment is available to all employees and eligible dependents enrolled in a Citi medical plan, regardless of sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression. An infertility diagnosis is not required.

Comprehensive fertility services are covered, up to a lifetime maximum of $24,000 for medical services and $7,500 for prescription drugs), including:

  • Ovulation induction
  • Intrauterine insemination
  • In-vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles
  • Cryopreservation
  • Embryo transfer
  • Many other advanced reproductive technology (ART) services

Call your medical plan’s Citi Health Concierge before obtaining any of these services to confirm coverage and ask about the need for prior authorization:

Surrogacy and Adoption Benefits

Citi employees are eligible to receive reimbursement of up to $30,000 per family (lifetime maximum) to help with eligible expenses related to growing your family through adoption or use of a surrogate.

Eligible expenses include:

  • Adoption agency and placement fees
  • Adoption-related travel (including lodging)
  • Legal and court fees associated with the adoption or surrogacy
  • Temporary foster care expenses during the adoption process
  • Medical expenses not otherwise covered by any medical plan associated with the adoption or surrogacy

Family Leave

Regardless of your sexual orientation, gender, gender identity or expression, parental and family leave benefits are offered to all new parents.

  • Paid Pregnancy Leave (PPL) – paid job-protected leave for eligible employees who are birth parents to a newly born child.
  • Paid Parental Bonding Leave (PBL) – if not otherwise eligible for PPL, paid job-protected leave for eligible employees who will be parents in connection with the birth or adoption of a child.
  • Child Care Leave (CCL) – unpaid job-protected leave to care for or bond with the same child for whom PBL was taken.

Emotional Well-being

Citi’s mental health benefits are designed to provide personalized support to meet the diverse needs of all our employees and their family members. For the LGBTQ+ community, that means offering inclusive, respectful and accepting support from professionals who understand you.

Be Well Program

Be Well counselors trained in LGBTQ+ issues can offer free, confidential support to help you feel comfortable and manage issues related to your sexual orientation and gender identity. In addition, online resources are available to help you through various situations, including coming out, telling loved ones about your sexuality, supporting coworkers and more. There are also dedicated resources for managers who want to support LGBTQ+ employees or foster an inclusive culture at work.

BetterHelp and Pride Counseling Online Therapy

Through BetterHelp, you can receive free virtual sessions with a therapist you select based on attributes important to you, such as gender, sexual orientation, age, ethnicity and area of expertise. BetterHelp's Pride Counseling gives you access to therapists who specialize in LGBTQ+ issues. Your Citi benefits allow you to have up to five virtual sessions or five weeks of asynchronous texting at no cost. BetterHelp services offer the convenience and confidentiality of phone, video or text-based counseling.

Medical Coverage for Mental Health Services

Your Citi medical plan provides coverage for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions from mental health professionals. Covered services include both outpatient and inpatient care. Depending on your plan, the deductible, coinsurance or copays would apply.

 

Financial Benefits

Citi is committed to supporting the financial well-being of all employees. Our benefits offer inclusive coverage and flexible options to meet your individual challenges and goals.

Disability Coverage

Short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) benefits are provided for medically necessary time away from work, including to recover from gender affirmation surgery and other related procedures.

Financial Advice

You may have specific questions related to your personal circumstances. Citi offers several options to support you:

In addition, the Be Well Program can connect you an attorney for a complimentary 30-minute consultation. This service is available to all Citi employees, whether or not you’re enrolled in the MetLife Legal Plans.

Child Care

The Bright Horizons program offers inclusive support to help you find the right solution to your child care needs.
